CHARLOTTE -- Demonstrators will hit the streets of Charlotte Friday. They're fighting for the right to protest outside the Democratic National Convention.

Dozens of protestors from across the country, as far away as Michigan and Wisconsin, will converge on the stadium Friday afternoon. They're holding a press conference.

At issue, they say they have a constitutional right to demonstrate outside the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte in September. But city leaders are infringing on those rights by banning access to certain areas. The group Coalition to Protest at the DNC claims they've tried to get permits for parks and a parade but are being stonewalled.

Back in January, the city council passed an ordinance banning camping on city property, forcing Occupy Charlotte protestors from the Old City Hall property. The county later followed suit passing a similar ordinance.

Friday's press conference begins at 1 p.m. outside Bank of America Stadium.
