CHARLOTTE -- There is now a push by some legislators to hire more North Carolina workers for next year's Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. House Republicans passed a resolution Tuesday morning asking convention organizers to focus more on local companies instead of union shops.

GOP leaders said it was in response to media reports that Charlotte-area companies are missing out on convention contracts because the Democratic party is favoring union companies. Democrats say the resolution is ridiculous.

Of the six contracts already awarded by the convention committee, one has gone to a unionized firm.
