CHARLOTTE -- President Obama's Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett was in Charlotte Wednesday and praised the city's preparation just 10 months out from the 2012 Democratic National Convention

Jarrett described Charlotte as a city on the cutting edge and said having the convention in the New South is proof the administration will fully defend the southern states which went Democrat in 2008.

Jarrett worked closely on the 1996 DNC Convention in Chicago and said Charlotte's turn to host will give the Queen City and state a legacy of being a place to invest and visit for years to come.

"I cannot overemphasize how the world looks to the United States for leadership and so the world will be looking at Charlotte and that's something to celebrate and it will hopefully will hopefully be a catalyst for economic development here," said Jarrett.

Jarrett also said the Obama administration, along with DNC Convention organizers, emphasizes that many of the convention jobs remain local.
