During Democratic National Convention week, delegates cheered on the speeches of the day and unless they called the Queen City home for the week, many packed up and headed up the road to Cabarrus County. County officials say hotels filled quickly with delegations from several states.

After all the speeches, protests and parties, Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx said the city emerged a winner after hosting the 2012 Democratic National Convention. Foxx said the convention put Charlotte on the map, especially because nearly everything went off without a hitch.

US Airways made it possible for DNC travelers to leave early without penalty. Some out-of-state visitors said they wanted to stick around for the president's speech, even though they couldn't get into the arena. A group of women traveled nine hours from the Mississippi Gulf Coast to uptown Charlotte.

Police arrested six protesters Thursday afternoon and charged them with impeding traffic outside the Duke Energy Center in uptown Charlotte. According to organizers, the protest was in response to what they call a "too cozy relationship" between Duke Energy and the Democratic Party.

Hundreds of street vendors braved the storms to try and cash in on the Democratic National Convention foot traffic. People came to uptown Charlotte during DNC week from all across the country, but many vendors said the bad weather has hurt business. Many New York politicians are in Charlotte for the convention, including Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Instead of trying to court the New York delegates, she spent her time speaking to the Iowa delegation. But all week, that delegation has been courted by potential candidates for 2016 and she insists she’s not one of them.
