RALEIGH -- A former employee of the North Carolina Democratic Party who claims he was sexually harassed has filed a lawsuit against the party and its chairman, David Parker.

At the heart of the suit is a press conference held on April 19 in which Parker argued against a list of claims made by Adrian Ortega about now former executive director Jay Parmley.

In the suit, Ortega said Parker knowingly made false and defamatory statements about him and violated an agreement in which the sexual harassment charges had been settled and the terms of it made confidential.

The complaint said Parker and the state Democratic Party held the press conference to protect their own jobs.
