CONCORD, N.C. – With just a couple weeks to go, Concord businesses are getting ready for the almost 2,000 delegates that will stay in the area during the Democratic National Convention.

Business owners were making some of their final plans Wednesday to welcome those staying in Cabarrus County.

Known as the bead lady, Kathleen Reeder is bringing her latest jewelery designs to the Cabarrus Visitors Bureau. She's hoping delegates from 11 states will take notice.

"It's all made here locally, so that for us is really big," she said.

Reeder is one of about 25 local Concord business owners that met Wednesday to make some of their final plans to welcome DNC delegates in Cabarrus County.

"To work on some day-trip options for the groups that are staying at Concord Mills Boulevard," said Stacie Jacobs, with EvanGrace Event Planning.

Jacobs says plans for everything from dining to live music, transportation and even beading sessions with the bead lady will keep delegates entertained if there's any down time.

"We've got it all. If you're staying at Concord Mills Boulevard, then you will need to go into to downtown for the convention and for different events, but otherwise we have given you lots of alternatives during your down time," she said.

Despite the Labor Day kickoff event at the speedway being canceled in June, Concord business owners say they still plan on the economic impact being significant.

Reeder says several of her custom designs have already been sold to delegates through preorders.

Delegates and their guests are invited to a live music and entertainment event at the Great Wolf Lodge after Carolina Fest on Labor Day.
