WASHINGTON, D.C.-- New numbers out Thursday show applications for national unemployment benefits dropped by 12,000 people last week. It is a sign of modest job growth after three months of weak hiring.
Applications fell to 377,000 from 389,000 the previous week. The drop could not stop the four week average from rising to the highest level in a month. The unemployment rate remains at 8.2 percent.
