CHARLOTTE – Residents concerned about a proposed hotel near SouthPark Mall will have a chance to voice those concerns Monday at a public hearing on a rezoning petition by the Charlotte City Council.
Residents say the proposal for a five-story hotel on a small wooded lot on Park South Drive, just south of Fairview Road, would have a negative impact on the area.
The developer, CN Hotels, isn't sure what type of hotel would be built, but they say it could be a Hilton, Marriott or a similar chain.
Residents already met with the project's developers to let them know about their concerns. They say they're worried that because of the height and density of the hotel, it won't fit in with the area.
The plot of land is located next door to the Ivey, a nonprofit adult day care center, and on the other side is Brighten Gardens, another assisted living facility. The site also backs up to a cul-de-sac of several homes, so many residents say they'd just like to see something that's more compatible with the neighborhood go in that spot.
The meeting starts at 4 p.m. at the Government Center in uptown Charlotte.
