RALEIGH — Video gaming enthusiasts gathered in the Triangle for one of the largest industry conferences on the East Coast.

The conference is taking place at the Raleigh Convention Center. Gaming is big business for the area, as more than 30 video game companies are based in the Triangle. The business provides employment for around 1,000 people.

The East Coast Game Conference is one of the top gaming conferences in the eastern United States. Designers, developers and industry professionals are in the City of Oaks to share ideas.

However more importantly, students are trying to score a new job before graduation.

"The East Coast Game Conference is great. It allows the kids the chance to come meet, network with industry professionals that are looking for new employees," said Wake Tech Instructor Walter Rotenberry.

Although the gaming industry likes to remain on the cutting edge of technology, using old school methods of getting out and networking are allowing students to press the start button on their career.

"This industry is booming right now. In the industry it's not what you know, it's who you know,” said Wake Tech student Charlie Kiley.

The two-day conference kicked off on Wednesday and is scheduled to wrap up on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
