BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. — Caterpillar Inc. could be coming to the North Carolina coast.
The Wilmington Star News reports the company is being recruited by state officials to build a plant in an industrial park that sits on the Brunswick—Columbus County line. The paper reports Caterpillar officials announced in mid-November the Illinois-based company would build a new plant in north America, relocating production from Japan.
The report comes on the heels of an announcement Monday that Gov. Bev Perdue met with executives of a company she is hoping to lure to Brunswick County. However, it is not known if that company was Caterpillar.
Caterpillar already has operations in 10 North Carolina cities including Winston-Salem, Cary, Charlotte and Goldsboro.
