CHARLOTTE — Residents looking for relief from the heat received a gift Saturday.

Charlotte-based Electrolux is distributing 900 Air Conditioning units this weekend to families seeking help from Crisis Assistance Ministries. Crisis Assistance workers say they have requests from more than 200 families on an average day.

People who received the units were grateful for the donation.

"It will improve my quality of life and decrease my amount of seizures and move around more and do more doing the day. And not be confined to a bed with one fan blowing on me trying to be cool," said recipient Maya Ann Mays.

Distribution continues Saturday and Sunday. To qualify, Mecklenburg County residents can apply at Crisis Assistance Ministry on Spratt Street in Charlotte. Applicants must bring a photo ID and Social Security Card, proof of income for the last 30 days and a copy of a lease or other proof of residency.
