CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police's k-9 unit has new training equipment thanks to the efforts of an area business. Dogtopia on Springbrook Road raised more than $3,000 for the unit during its second annual charity dog wash. The money helped purchase training tools and specialty items for Charlotte's finest dogs on duty.

Dogtopia, the event coordinator, was issued a plaque Wednesday by the department's k-9 unit for its efforts.
