CHARLOTTE – Family, friends and classmates are mourning the death of 14-year-old Sloan Chambers, who lost her battle with cancer Monday.

The Alexander Graham Middle School student suffered from a rare form of cancer called mast cell leukemia.

In April, more than 100 people signed up to be bone marrow donors in an effort to save her life and a Facebook page was created to raise awareness about the disease.

Students at her school wore orange Tuesday in her honor. The color orange is normally reserved for leukemia awareness. Her friends and classmates like Mary Katherine Falls say the color now represents Chamber's life.

“Orange to me means we never stopped fighting for Sloan and she never stopped fighting for us,” said Fall.

The principal at Alexander Graham Middle School where Chambers went to school says counselors were available to students there and at Myers Park High School.

Details about her death and funeral arrangements haven't been released.
