CHARLOTTE – The recently-banned synthetic drugs known as spice and bath salts can now be tested for. The substances, which mimic the effects of marijuana and cocaine, go undetected with a normal drug test.
Jeff Goddard works for mobile drug testing of the Carolinas and says some companies don't see it as a problem yet.
"Primarily because North Carolina just made it illegal. But I think it's one of those things that a lot of recreational drug users are using because they can get away with it and their company's standard drug test isn't going to pick it up,” said Jeff Goddard, with Mobile Drug Testing of the Carolinas.
Goddard says one reason why companies aren't testing for spice or bath salts is because the tests still new and can be costly.
