CHARLOTTE – The two candidates running for Mecklenburg County District Attorney squared off during a forum Wednesday night. Michael Barnes and Andrew Murray turned it into a highly contested debate.

The two are vying for current D.A. Peter Gilchrist’s soon-to-be vacant seat. They want you to know who they are and more importantly, what makes them different.

“We are not the same person,” said Murray.

“There is a vast difference in experience and capabilities,” said Barnes.

Their resumes are somewhat similar – versed in law and holders of ,at-one-time or another, public offices.

Barnes is an attorney and a city council representative.

“He has done little to no criminal cases over the years,” said Murray.

Murray is a former assistant district attorney in Mecklenburg County and is also a practicing attorney.

“He has put criminals on the street the last 15 years,” said Barnes.

The two are going toe-to-toe after Peter Gilchrist’s soon-to-be vacant D.A. Seat. One he’s occupied for more than 30 years.

Election Day is November 2.
