CHARLOTTE – Local teacher Martha Dobson, of Mount Pleasant Middle School in Cabarrus County, will head to Alaska for the 2011 Iditarod sled dog race. She was chosen as the Target 2011 Teacher on the Trail.

The Target program allows one teacher each year to fly to various checkpoints during the race, sharing observations and lesson plans online with students and teachers around the world.

As the 13th Teacher on the Trail, Dobson will also create a standards-aligned curriculum and keep an online journal as she prepares for her trek next year.

The Target Teacher on the Trail program began in 1999.
