CHARLOTTE -- Realtor Rhonda Copp doesn't know what it's like to sell homes in a so-called "good economy."

"This is all I know," she said from the kitchen of a bungalow-style home she's trying to sell in Plaza Midwood. Copp has been in the business for a little more than three years, most of which the housing market has been staggering.

But April numbers released by the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association show some promise. April was the seventh straight month for closing increases. Even better news, closings increased 25 percent in April 2010 compared to April 2009. While the Federal Home Buyer's Tax Credit was a catalyst for many sales, experts said the slowing job loss rate and boost in consumer confidence are also helping.

This week, leaders in the real estate industry are in Washington, D.C. to talk about changes that can help continue the upward trend of home sales.

From the conference, Anne Marie Howard, CEO of the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association, said there is already talk about how to handle short sales and foreclosures that can be a tedious, lengthy process.

"A lot of what we heard today was the need for mechanisms for the mortgage industry and the Federal Government to provide to help on the realtors side to get these transactions dealt with more expeditiously than they're dealing with them right now," she said.

Another good sign for home sales in April, homes sold for about $3,800 more than they did in March.
