RALEIGH – Pornographer and first amendment champion Larry Flynt was the key note speaker at a symposium on UNC's campus Thursday titled “Sexually Explicit Speech and the First Amendment” sponsored by the UNC School of Law.

There was some concern about a possible protest leading up to the event, but the only indication of protest was in the form of a school group's handing out fliers that opposed Flynt's viewpoints, arguing that they were degrading to women.

About 350 people attended the event and some say they were excited to hear his opinions on free speech.

“Free speech, we've had it for so long it's lost its value,” Flynt said.

Thursday night's event was only the first part of the symposium, which will run through Friday.
