Duke to begin researching dirty bomb radiation

DURHAM – Duke University will begin researching the effects of radiation from a nuclear dirty bomb. It’s part of a possible $44 million contract with the federal Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.
The agency is responsible for developing medical responses to chemical, biological and nuclear attacks. Duke is one of nine universities and companies awarded contracts to test human radiation levels.
The contracts total up to $400 million over five years.
