RALEIGH – A group of artists with personal ties to Haiti has found a way to help. They're calling on other artists to send their work and sell them to raise money for Mercy Corps to go directly to Haiti.

Georges Le Chevallier, whose cousin was working for the United Nations in Haiti when last week's earthquake struck, joined up with friends Peter Evrersoll and Titus Heagins to form the group Artists Unite for Haiti. They'll take drawings, paintings and photography in 11 by 17 inch format and sell them for $25 each.

They say the idea came from a simple brainstorming session just after the earthquake.

“My goal is to have as many artists from all over the world unite and do something positive,” Le Chevallier said. And while he continues to hold out hope that his cousin is found safe, he said he knows others will benefit from the charity.

The group will sell all the donated art over a three-day period, from Feb. 5 to Feb. 7, at the Lodi Project, located at 1126 North Blount Street in Raleigh.
