CHARLOTTE – News 14 Carolina's parent company, Time Warner Cable, is putting up $100 million of cash for kids. Company executives say the Connect a Million Minds initiative is a five-year investment to help spur more student interest in math and science subjects.

The purpose of the initiative is to give kids across the state and country hands-on learning experience to help spawn careers in math and science later in life.

For now, Time Warner Cable has partnered with a handful of after-school programs that are dedicated to education.

Last year, North Carolina students performed above the national average in math. But it's science where students statistically struggle and where the initiative could help better scores.
