EASTOVER, N.C. – The Brewer family of Cumberland County are the proud recipients of a brand new home. Lorelei Brewer was born with a severe heart condition, which made special house modifications necessary.

“Lorelei is missing half her heart,” Chelle Brewer, Lorelei’s mother, said. “You would never know that by looking at her, but she has what’s called hyper-plastic left heart syndrome, and then a whole bunch of other anomalies.”

Those health conditions made it necessary for the family to have a customized home.

“[We needed] extra outlets because of all the medical equipment we have, and then being able to have extra storage space because of all the oxygen that we keep stored in the house,” Chelle Brewer said.

Chelle Brewer got the attention of 20 Fayetteville businesses that came together to give the family a new home.

“There’s no end to her heart, and there’s no end to what she’s given others,” Ralph Huff, a company owner, said.

Huff said it was an honor to help out a military family.

“They’re the salt of the earth. The guys in our military are the salt of the earth and we just can’t do enough for them,” Huff said.

The family is now in the process of adopting a boy with special needs from China.
